A Siemens spokeswoman explained how the phone works: “The phone will use a tiny chip measuring less than one millimeter to detect unpleasant odors. It examines the air in the immediate vicinity for anything from bad breath and alcohol to atmospheric gas levels. Some people take smelling good rather seriously.”
If Siemens is really serious, it should add features that would allow phone owners to do something about their smell. What’s the use of knowing you stink if you can’t do anything about it at once, say because you’re stuck in traffic?
For the basic model, I suggest the following: built-in electric toothbrush, dispensers for toothpaste, mouthwash, water, and cologne.
The deluxe model would have an electric shaver with dispensers for shaving cream and aftershave.
