Easy nights

I’ve been spending a lot of my nights this week at Easy Street. Last Wednesday, at around midnight, I just had to get out the house because it was warm and I was feeling a bit cooped up.

And then on Friday, as I was getting ready for bed, Diane knocked on my door and tapped on my window too like the Electrolux guy. She wanted a drink. But the problem was we both were short of cash. So we had to borrow from my father.

It was fun, with a bit of swing dancing at the end to a Barry White CD. And then yesterday, a chat friend of mine (we've been chatting for a year) decided she wanted to meet me. So there I was again at Easy Street.

It's a cool place to unwind. Hardly anyone ever sits inside, except a few who can drink without smoking. Most of us would rather sit out at a sidewalk table. We could smoke our lungs out, watch people walk by, chatter endlessly, and still see and hear whoever was performing onstage inside.

Classy place, and yet there’s no dress code. Old songs rule here and guests are welcome to get on stage and sing or play an instrument.

Shameless plug here: Easy Street is in that arcade right across the Ever mall on Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City. It's owned by musician Ted Orendain and sportscaster Ed Piczon, whose wife Karina oversees the kitchen. Beer at P33 plus tax.
