Happy days

It’s been a while since I wrote here. That usually means a lot has been happening to me that I can't be bothered to write about — because writing, even the best personal writing, happens after the fact. And sometimes the fact is the whole point of living.

Last Easter Sunday, I was very happy. Flo finally took it upon herself to visit me, with the kids in tow. Maybe she was curious also about my father's good fortune. Papa had just closed a land sale deal and got quite a lot of money out of it — P250,000, or so he says.

Flo and the kids had some Coke and stayed a while at my apartment, which not surprisingly Alessi remembered very well. Flo just couldn’t believe Alessi would remember the exact place.

Then we had dinner at Papa’s — lechon manok, pork adobo, and bean sprouts with ground pork.

And I then hauled them all, with me driving Papa’s 92 Corolla XE, to Easy Street beside Ever.

Alessi and Ani slept over, and Ani had some fun with the computer, playing a game at the Disney Channel website.

The next day we went to Papa’s place and then to Ever, where I bought toys for the kids, and then had dinner with Flo, as usual, at Whistlestop. She knew us so well she had ordered ahead — Thai Bagoong Rice for the kids and Hainanese Chicken for me.

Papa gave me P3,000 as a gift. And would you believe it, Flo gave me, just because I kidded her about it, P15,000 to buy a ref and a TV set: “Huwag ka bibili ng second-hand ha?”

So now I have a ref and a TV, and very good ones too — a Pioneer 5-cubic-feet and an LG Collins Xenia model, 14-inch set.
