Taking it slowly

Whenever I have time, I like doing the things I enjoy slowly, like eating. And I learned this while doing restaurant reviews when I was a lifestyle writer for the old Daily Globe. Back then I was having lunch or dinner at some restaurant almost daily. Not only did I gain weight — blowing up from 115 to 137 pounds in just three months — but I also gained a taste for taking leisurely meals.

Anyway, today, at around 3 p.m., right after paying my electric bill at Meralco Commonwealth Avenue, I walked over to Ever. I bought a crystal case for my cellphone first before ordering lunch at Savory — a set meal of chicken with pancit canton and rice.

My appetite has really improved over the last three years. I finished everything of course, after which I decided to cross the street over to the arcade nearby and had a cafe au lait at Figaro’s. I sat out and had a cigarette while I went on reading, actually rereading, Eye of the Needle by Ken Follett. I first read that in college, and it has since been made into a movie starring Donald Sutherland as Die Nadel.

Anyway, I like doing things leisurely. I got to the office past 4 p.m., which is my usual time. But since I’ve been going earlier the past week I decided to offset the time just this day. And this leisurely meal and coffee break was sort of my reward for myself.
